Junior Bandits Defeat Breakers in Tight Fought Match

2010-01-14

At the Bridgewater Ice Arena, on Wednesday January 13th, the home-team Bandits defeated the Bay State Breakers by a score of 2-1. The game was close throughout, with the Breakers scoring first, but the Bandits rallied back to get the next two goals.

A hard fought battle occurred at 12:00pm on January 13th at the Bridgewater Ice arena.  The 4th place Baystate Breakers took on the 5th place Bridgewater Bandits, in which both teams played as if they were fighting for that last and most coveted playoff spot.  Early-on the momentum seemed to be with the visiting team as A. Edwards (11) of the Breakers scored, assisted by B. Corcoran (3), at 11:11 in the first.  However, less then five minutes later, R. Edwards (25) of the Bandits answered back with his first goal of the game.  He was assisted by both M. Gates (12) and K. Lampron (16).  By the close of the first period it appeared that the game would be one for the Bandits to lose.

Early in the second period at 2:25 R. Edwards (25) and the Bandits got their second goal.  A fourth Bandit got in on the action as J. Goodsell (21) assisted on Edwards’ second goal.  From this point on, both team’s offenses were shut down by the goalies of the opposing teams.  B. Phillips (31) of the Breakers saved 21 out of 23 shots, while C. Ryan (30) saved an impressive 35 out of 36 shots.  These two teams could find themselves in a battle to the end, with several games remaining before the playoffs, including a couple more against each other.  Overall, it was a thrilling game between The Bridgewater Bandits and the Baystate Breakers.
